Canon EOS C300 explained

Dec 2, 2011

For those who still wondering about Canon EOS C300, you came to the right place. Credit to  Jonathan Yi, who got the chance of shooting some footages with C300 and did some post production. He shared us about his experience of using C300.

I did mention in my previous post about HDSLR and RED Camera which HDSLR and bigger camera such as RED are different in its class. Both did very well it its own class and functioning some desired works. HDSLR is more likely to be ‘I want to shot beautiful video directly from my camera’ while RED is more likely to be ‘I want to shot a better raw so that I can have more options in the post-production’. Well, for me both are important but it is better if these both features are combined. That’s why C300 was introduced.

There are a lot of debates on the prediction of the future of filming, whether Canon C line up cameras can really beat the RED Camera or not. But the future of filming seems to be predictable now with a lot of improvements on the camera productions. Alright forget that craps.

We are still digging about the EOS C300. One of the biggest bold on this camera is the ISO sensitivity. Even in the high ISO of 20000, you can only see little grainy videos that actually more like a film grains as compared to HDSLR. No other camera with a similar Super 35mm sensor size approaches this level of sensitivity, and none of our EOS HD SLRs approach similarly high ISOs with as little image noise as the EOS C300.

The image sensor of this camera uses super 35-size sensor that entirely designed and manufactured by Canon itself. Of course, no more “jello effect” and minimized effect of rolling shutter.

And yeah.. some tilt shift

There are 8 gamma setting that you can choose

Normal 1

Normal 2

Normal 3

Normal 4

Cine 1

Cine 2

EOS Standard – more like a usual HDSLR look

Canon Log – a custom picture setting that has log gamma and high dynamic range, leaving maximum freedom in post-production with color correction in mind.

Looking at the way the camera works with skin tone by prioritizing it, it is just another great feature of the C300.

You have to watch this video first to know more about the C300 in action. A RED fan must be jealous of you LOL
