I try my best to answer every single basic about video that you want to ask.
1) What software do you use?
Actually it depends on what you’re doing. For video editing you can use Sony Vegas or Final Cut Pro. I prefer Sony Vegas, and for the effects, I use Adobe After Effects. I have been doing video for almost variety of software including Windows Movie Maker, Photostory(doing my projects on my studies), Pinnacle Studios, and much more.
One thing you have to remember, when it comes to the editing part, almost every software are the same. From the phase of cutting the video and adding some effects, every software I stated are essentially the same. So don’t just feel down or depress just because most of the video editors using some specific software and you are not using it because of the money factor. Starts with the one that already there, Windows Movie Maker and iMovie(for Mac). When you got the money, yes you should buy the software.
2) What camera should I buy?
First thing first, if you can borrow it from your friends, BORROW IT. Otherwise if you want to buy it, buy the one that actually the best camera that you can afford. Find the camera that shoot HD, and the camera that doesn’t use tape. Capturing using tape will give you more pain.
3) Where did you get the sound effects?
Sound effects are everywhere. You can download free royalty sound effects that actually doesn’t effects your copyright issues. I got a large amount of sound effects in my library. I would say I 95% download it from the internet. The other 5% I just record it from the video cam or just an ipod. For gun shot and bomb explosion, I would suggest you to check Videocopilot. They sell it and you can download it from his website.
For music and background, I got a software named Juicer which you can download it from the source. It got tons of variety of music and looping background that match the video almost.
